USSA NATIONAL TD AND RACE ORGANIZER SEMINAR

Oct. 27-29
Hilton Hotel
Reno, NV

Chairman of the USSA Officials Subcommittee Bob Gross, along
with former USSA Technical Director Hugh Cooke will present a
seminar for the organizers and officials of FIS/USSA national
calendar competitions.  Officials and race organizers from all
nations are invited to attend.

This update will satisfy the Level 3 and 4 USSA TD certification
(TDs are required to attend a seminar once every two years, and
chiefs of competition for National Championship and Junior
Olympic races are required to attend a seminar within the two
years prior to hosting a championship event).

Seminar Schedule:

Friday , October 27 
6:00pm Introduction
-Purpose of Seminar
-Sample inventory needs or budgets for major
race production
-Discussion of the necessary partnerships for
success
-Use of Volunteers
-Committees
-Assignments and training
-Accountability and follow up

-Timelines for Production

Saturday, October 28 

7:00am Breakfast (served for all participants in the
meeting room) 

8:00am  Managing the new formats

- Layout and preparation

- Information/public address

- Timekeeping/videos

- Crowd control

- Press/media facilities

- Results

- Timing and Points


9:45am  Break

10:00am The Course and Stadium

- Homologation highlights -- sprint course and
stadium

o Characteristics of a sprint course

o Length, men vs. women

o Course width -- start, finish, climbs, flats,
corners and descents

o Track setting for classic

o Overall setup -- course, start, finish, warmup
and staging areas, access to waxing and warming areas

o  Management of service pens for Team Sprint

o Use of Fencing, Tents, Shelters, Scoreboards

12:00pm    Lunch (on own)

1:15pm Practical issues -- championship events

- Managing wax testing and warmup during the
championship week

- Proper management of official training

o Closure of the venue for grooming -- planning
the grooming timeline

o Signage/setup requirements

o Working with coaches/athletes during training to
correct problems

o Dealing with changes based on the experiences of
official training

- Sanctions & Penalties

o Types of sanctions

o Delivering the sanction

o Recording/reporting the sanction

o Sanctions from previous events

- Seeding rules -- revised for 2007

- Timing

- Jury organization

3:30pm Board vehicles for ASC (transport
will be provided for all participants)



4:30 On-site work, ASC stadium
and trails, followed by a reception and
barbeque hosted by Auburn Ski Club


8:30pm Return to Hilton


Sunday, Oct. 29

- Race organizers handbook 2003


11:00am-12:00pm Seminar test


Hotel information: Rooms can be booked at the airport Hilton
by calling 775-789-2000.  The room rate during the seminar is
$99 per night, single or double occupancy. To receive this
rate, rooms must be booked by Sept. 27 (indicate that you are
with the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association).


The hotel does not operate a shuttle from the airport, but it is
within a short ride via taxi.


Registration:  The cost of the seminar is $30. Hotel rooms
must be booked separately, and are not included in the seminar
price.
