Colorado Cup Update

With three Colorado Cup races done, the overall standings are tight as can be, with a tie on the overall men’s side between Mike Hogan and Eric Meyer, and only five points separating Maria Wik from Karen Waeschle in the women’s overall.

The Colorado Cup Nordic Series includes nine well-established races that have a history of being the best events in Colorado. This is its first year of existence, but already race participation numbers are up, and excitement about a cohesive cross-country skiing race series is mounting.

Events held in the 2006 calendar year are officially sanctioned as the Colorado State Championships for Seniors (Age 20+) and Masters (Age 30+) by Rocky Mountain Nordic, the official governing body of the sport in the region. State championships will be awarded to the overall leaders in each gender (Seniors) and age class (Masters) for the overall Colorado Cup scored on the events held Jan 1, 2006–March 12, 2006. [The Gold Run Classic results on Dec 10, 2005 will not be included in this calculation to avoid scoring retroactively before the Colorado State Championship was announced.]

Racers are given points based on their finishing position and ranked overall by gender as well as in 10-year age group categories.  At the end of the season, the Colorado Cup will be awarded to overall senior and junior champions as well as age group winners.
