It’s been a great week of World Cup Cross Country action here in Canmore, Alberta. The weather has been beautiful and every race has had lots of excitement. The Canadian women won six medals in just five World Cup races. That was amazing to watch and gives great hope for North American racers. The US had some good results and they will continue to improve. Rebecca struggled to match the intensity of these races. Out of the four races that she did she finished 39th, 41st, 42nd and 14th in the two person team sprint today. To race in the World Cup is one thing, but to race and do well is totally another subject. This is the place for perfect races, which Rebecca has had only a handful of in her career. Up to this point none of her perfect races have been against an international field. Not only does it take a perfect race but you must arrive in perfect condition. Rebecca is finding that she is not at her best fitness level and has some work to do to get there in time for the Olympics. On the positive side, at least the Olympics aren't tomorrow, she does have about two months to really focus and prepare for the big games in Italy. Rebecca has to move forward knowing that she can't change the past, she can only prepare for the future.
We are staying positive and will persevere. We will continue on this journey as we always have, putting our trust in God's hands.
Our next stop is US Nationals in Soldier Hollow, Utah Jan. 3rd through the 10th. Look for Rebecca to ski strong there. The Olympic team will be named on Jan. 17th.
