Tour the Summit
Roughly the same number of skiers as last year enjoyed the genle 7.4 miles course from the Gold Run Nordic Center in Breckenridge to the Frisco Nordic Center. It was a beautiful day and the smart "rolling" start (anytime between 9 and 10am) ensured a stress-free registration. The trail was never crowded and i saw only smiles on people's faces - those smiles would widen with the sight of rest stations and smell of fresh cookies, coffee, tea or hot cocoa and even delicious chocolate truffels. Little boy took advantage of the sweet powder and bravely snowshoed next to the packed trail almost chest deep - i don't think he did it the whole way, but he sure looked like he was having fun. Skiers and snowshoers of all ages learned interesting facts about our environment and what one can do to keep it clean, healthy and green (or white if one is thinking winter) from numerous signs along the way. At the end our little son was disapointed, he really enjoyed the ride behind his dad and didn't want it to end. I on the other hand was lookig forward to the yummy homemade soup and bread, a gulp or two of New Belgian beer and fun music. All in all a great day for the whole family. Forgot to mention the goodie bags - what fun that is, neat little rucksacs one can ski with, full of good stuff and coupons!
Many thanks to the organizers, volunteers and sponsors for fun, enjoyable event!
